Pokemon: Our story, Our Journey. (Our Characters)

Post  ravenxeo on Fri Jul 30, 2010 4:01 am

So this is an RP i thought could be fun...
Its set starting in Kanto where you can choose to be a new trainer, a beginner trainer with a couple pokemon already or even a member of an evil team. Any of them is fine, they are all attempting global domination of some kind...and as such are recruiting in all regions.
the point of the RP is funtimes and pokemon battles where logic reigns supreme and game mechanics take a backseat. Just because Electricity is super effective against water types doesn't mean there isn't a logical way to avoid it.
Also you dont need to have only 4 attacks as it makes no senseso you can have any of the moves your pokemon SHOULD learn except the higher level super attacks unless they are fairly powerful..
Like Squirtle can learn Hydro pump but wouldn't have it from its Starter status...maybe a little later it could learn it but probably not before evolving..
things are mainly up to your discretion but if you are going a bit overboard i'll tell ya.

So this is the character thread!

Name:
Sex:
Age:
Hometown:
Appearance:
Personality:
Background:
Extra:
(Optional)
Team:
Starter:
Other pokemon:
Badges:
Relationships:

You aren't limited in your range of starters..
if you can come up with good reasons then you can have nearly any unevolved/pre evolved pokemon. (the difference being that Tier 1 pokemon and baby pokemon are unevolved and pokemon with baby forms are pre-evolved: Pikachu, Clefairy, Jigglypuff etc)
the only limits being no legendaries and no final/secondary evolutions and nothing too rare..
I know what i'm doing for my first pokemon...
So we'll see what people think then i'll post up my character details and make a topic to begin the play.

P.S when it says 'Starter and other pokemon' are optional it just means you start out the RP already a trainer. if you are gonna start the RP as a fresh face with no pokemon to their name then dont fill those in.
As we get to them i'll Play the Gym Leaders but you'll have to fill in any trainer or wild battles you want to have as we proceed but they MUST make sense.
To add up the freedom you'll find a fair amount of wild pokemon around not just split off via region..i'll tell you whats in each region and area we get to or via request.
Every new trainer will start in Pallet town unless we get far enough into the RP that we switch regions then you'll start in the starter town of whatever region we have been to before including current one.
People may join the main group of friends or head off their own for their own parralel journies etcetc.
Respect other peoples characters and pm them before you do something that seriously affects them. Like a Team member cant just up and steal all the pokemon in the group and leave. you need to have the OK of the people you attack, But the people you attck cant just outright deny you, as these Teams need to be a threat. if no one plays as them i'll throw them in occasionally. if you ARE playing as them then i'll occasionally throw plans your way to give you fun things to do.

ETCETC
What do you guys think?
Other than the fact i type FAR to much..

It seems...a little cookie cutter. Neutral I don't mean to be rude Jamie but here's a little constructive criticism.

Its set starting in Kanto where you can choose to be a new trainer, a
beginner trainer with a couple pokemon already or even a member of an
evil team. Any of them is fine, they are all attempting global
domination of some kind...and as such are recruiting in all regions.

This is the basic theme for any of the Pokemon games. Starting trainer, evil team trying to take over the world, etc etc. It's been done before. There's nothing to draw a person to it. If I wanted to rp with a storyline like this I'd just go pick up HG or SS. Neutral If your going to make a journey rp you need to include something different. Something that's not included in any of the games. A storyline that isn't completely generic. Sure you can be a little cookie-cutter here and there, nothing wrong with that but you can't be completely generic. The evil world domination thing isn't elaborated well enough. WHY do they want to take over the world, WHAT means are they doing to achieve this goal? What has their influence been on or around the region?

the point of the RP is funtimes and pokemon battles where logic reigns
supreme and game mechanics take a backseat. Just because Electricity is
super effective against water types doesn't mean there isn't a logical
way to avoid it.

Again generic cookie cutting. Any Pokemon role-play has fun times and Pokemon Battles. Logic reigns supreme? You have an original idea there but there is a problem, it can turn into a whole "Ash's pikachu syndrome" where one sole Pokemon can take down something it just naturally couldn't. It's a good system if you can work it out.

Also you dont need to have only 4 attacks as it makes no sense so you can
have any of the moves your pokemon SHOULD learn except the higher level
super attacks unless they are fairly powerful..

I'm kind of confused about this. There isn't a 4 attack limit? A 4 attack limit is there so players don't have an extremely OP'ed Pokemon that knows hyper beam, blast burn, and several other extra OP moves in one move set. So at the start all your Pokemon know every move aside from super attacks?

Like Squirtle can learn Hydro pump but wouldn't have it from its Starter
status...maybe a little later it could learn it but probably not before
evolving..

Alright that makes a little more sense.

You aren't limited in your range of starters..
if you can come up
with good reasons then you can have nearly any unevolved/pre evolved
pokemon. (the difference being that Tier 1 pokemon and baby pokemon are
unevolved and pokemon with baby forms are pre-evolved: Pikachu,
Clefairy, Jigglypuff etc)
the only limits being no legendaries and no
final/secondary evolutions and nothing too rare..
I know what i'm
doing for my first pokemon...

So my trainer can have something completely non-native to kanto without having to capture it? I can give her a full team of non-evolved Pokemon and be done with it? There's no fun in that. No legendaries is an understandable rule. Final/secondary evolution forms are a no-no either. They are 5 minute trainers and shouldn't have nothing more than level 5 Pokemon.

So we'll see what people think then i'll post up my character details
and make a topic to begin the play.

My overall opinion is that you have no plot. Neutral It's just journey. It's got nothing that allures an rper to it. You've just wrote the Pokemon game storyline down on a forum and your done with it. I don't see your idea. If it's something cool, great then convey it as something cool as well. From my perspective I don't see a HINT of plot in there.

As we get to them i'll Play the Gym Leaders but you'll have to fill in
any trainer or wild battles you want to have as we proceed but they MUST
make sense.
To add up the freedom you'll find a fair amount of wild
pokemon around not just split off via region..i'll tell you whats in
each region and area we get to or via request.

So I have to make random trainers come out of no where and challenge me or magically challenge me? And I can understand finding different types of Pokemon where they would normally not be seen the flaw with this is I can magically find a Riolu at mount moon and it would be perfectly alright? Dude, this is Kanto. If your going to pull that at LEAST make a new region. Your also giving your role-players to much freedom. All that freedom is going to lead to something completely ludicrous. So your rpers are just suppose to know what Pokemon appear there? Or they just get to choose them freely?

Every new
trainer will start in Pallet town unless we get far enough into the RP
that we switch regions then you'll start in the starter town of whatever
region we have been to before including current one.

Wait I'm not understanding the concept here. So if we're going to Hoeenn and we've been to Pallet I can restart at Pallet? Also, if I'm not a new trainer I can start off in Viridian with all 8 badges?[/quote]

People may join
the main group of friends or head off their own for their own parralel
journies etcetc.
This just get's the rp more and more cluttered and confusing.

ETCETC

Sorry Jamie, but this is hardly an rp in the least bit. This is just someone throwing the generic Pokemon storyline up there and just saying it's outright cool. As I've said at least 5 times before, you've got no plot. No storyline. No nothing. It's just one of those, "Oh let's go on some random journey and save the world!" If I wanted just that I'll go pick up my Emerald version.

You need something in a story form that's going to appeal to the readers. A role-play on a forum is like an interactive fanfiction. The rp master must give a base storyline and allow their rpers a certain amount of freedom while not giving them to much.

My advice overall: Get a plot or a storyline. Left like this I really think no one would sign-up. Aside from Dyanna for obvious reasons.
